10th International Behavioral Ecology Congress
We would
like to welcome you to the 10th Jubilee Congress of the ISBE held in Jyväskylä,
Finland between the 10th and 15th of July 2004. ISBE
was established in the late 1980’s, and today the need for an interdisciplinary
approach is expanding far beyond its initial integrative framework (e.g.
to genetics, systematics, physiology and conservation). We will encourage
an integrative approach during the Jubilee meeting of the Society in Jyväskylä,
and the wide variety of topics is illustrated by our choice of plenary
and Hamilton lecture speakers. The goal of the ISBE meetings has always
been to allow the latest developments and results to be presented in a
minimally formal context. Thus, we do not have any specific symposia for
talks, rather we expect researchers to come with their latest ideas and
results that can be fitted as oral and poster presentations into the program.
However, we have composed a tentative, but not exclusive, list of session
topics that we expect to have.
Jyväskylä
is a lively University town in the heart of the famous Lake District of
Finland. Our Evolutionary Ecology unit has gained a strong status in Behavioural
Ecology research, and has been appointed as a Centre
of Excellence in Research by the Academy of Finland. However, within
the section of Ecology and Environmental Management at the Department
of Biological and Environmental Sciences, there are many other research
projects covering a wide taxonomic array of studies, including applied
research, and we emphasize an integrative approach in all our research.
In addition
to the scientific program, we are also planning to organise a stimulating
social program including a boat excursion on the beautiful Lake Päijänne,
the possibility to experience a traditional Finnish sauna and a midnight
sun soccer tournament.
On the behalf
of Organising Committee, we warmly invite you to the Jubilee Congress
of ISBE
Sincerely
Yours,
Rauno Alatalo,
Taru-Maija Heilala,
Janne Kotiaho,
Johanna Mappes and Hannu
Ylönen, University of Jyväskylä.
